The journey

Your child's progress path

A simple, transparent process designed to support your child from the very first lesson — clear, structured and stress-free.

1
Step 1

Book Your Free Consultation

Your journey begins with a short consultation with one of our learning advisors. The purpose of this consultation is to understand your child as an individual and to help you decide whether our tuition is the right fit for your family.

During the consultation, we discuss:
  • Your child's school year and current level
  • Areas of difficulty or concern
  • Confidence levels and strengths & interests
  • Any SEND, anxiety or specific learning needs
  • Your goals for the coming term or year
  • Whether you prefer small-group or one-to-one lessons

Step 2

Personalised Learning Plan

Every child receives a personalised learning plan before lessons begin. This plan is created by the teacher who will be working with your child and is built around their specific profile.

The plan outlines:
  • National Curriculum expectations for their year group
  • School topics and current attainment
  • Confidence levels and learning gaps
  • Long-term goals and parent priorities
  • Any SEND or EAL needs
3
Step 3

Matched With a Qualified UK Teacher

We match your child with a teacher who has the right experience, subject knowledge and teaching style. Our teachers understand how to support children at different levels, from early primary to GCSE.

Every Skinat teacher brings:
  • Classroom experience from real UK schools
  • Curriculum knowledge at every key stage
  • Behavioural understanding and patience
  • SEND-friendly teaching strategies
  • The ability to explain concepts in multiple ways
4
Step 4

Weekly Online Lessons Begin

Lessons take place online at a time that suits your family. Our online classroom allows children to interact with their teacher, follow examples, complete tasks and ask questions comfortably.

Each lesson follows a steady structure:
  • Review of previous learning
  • Clear teaching of a new skill
  • Guided examples worked together
  • Independent practice with support
  • Feedback, correction and encouragement
  • Summary of next steps
5
Step 5 — Optional

Practice and Consolidation

If parents want additional support at home, we can provide short practice tasks to reinforce key skills. These tasks are always manageable, designed to build confidence, and aligned to lesson content. We never overload children with unnecessary work.

6
Step 6

Ongoing Communication and Feedback

Clear communication with families is one of the most important parts of tuition. Parents always know how their child is progressing, what they are learning, and how close they are to their goals.

We keep you informed through:
  • End-of-topic feedback after every session
  • Termly progress reports with next steps
  • Opportunities to ask questions at any time
  • Honest, practical advice on what's needed
  • Guidance on how to support learning at home
7
Step 7

Termly Reports and Next Steps

At the end of each term, you receive a detailed written report summarising your child's progress. Reports are aligned with National Curriculum expectations and can support home education records, meetings with schools, SEND reviews, revision planning, and long-term academic goals.

Termly reports include:
  • Progress made against the personalised learning plan
  • Strengths, challenges and areas for continued learning
  • Any adjustments needed to the learning plan
  • Recommended next steps and goals
Inside a lesson

How every lesson is structured

Lessons are taught at a calm, manageable pace that suits your child's confidence and learning needs. Each session follows a consistent six-part framework.

1
Review previous learning

We revisit what was covered last time to reinforce retention before introducing anything new.

2
Teach a new skill

Clear, step-by-step teaching of a new concept aligned to the National Curriculum and the child's learning plan.

3
Guided examples

Teacher and child work through examples together, with scaffolding and modelling before independent practice.

4
Independent practice

The child attempts questions independently while the teacher provides support, correction and encouragement.

5
Feedback and correction

Honest, constructive feedback is given on strengths and areas to improve — always positively framed.

6
Summary & next steps

The session closes with a clear summary of what was learned and what to expect in the next lesson.

Age-appropriate learning

How lessons work for different ages

Our approach adapts to every child's stage, learning style and subject needs — from primary foundations to GCSE exam preparation.

KS1–KS2 (Primary)

Calm, visual and focused

Lessons are calm, focused and visual, with lots of modelling, repetition and confidence-building. We meet the child where they are and build steadily from there.

KS3 (Lower Secondary)

Bridging the gap

Lessons focus on strengthening key skills, filling gaps, and building independent thinking before GCSE. Subject-specific teaching from Year 7.

GCSE (KS4)

Exam-ready preparation

Lessons include exam technique, past papers, topic-by-topic teaching and revision planning aligned to AQA, Edexcel, OCR and Eduqas.

SEND Learners

Scaffolded and adapted

Lessons are scaffolded, structured and adapted to each child's processing needs, pace and confidence. ASD, ADHD, dyslexia and EAL all supported.

Home-Education

Flexible pathways

Lessons follow personalised pathways with flexible daytime scheduling and progress reports suitable for Local Authority use.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before starting

Answers to the most common questions from families considering tuition with Skinat.

How long are lessons?
+

Typically 55–60 minutes, depending on the programme. SATs and primary lessons may be shorter. All lesson times are agreed with you before starting.

Do I need special equipment?
+

You need a device (laptop, tablet or desktop), a stable internet connection, and ideally a webcam and microphone. A headset is helpful but not essential. We'll send full setup guidance before the first lesson.

Can lessons match school topics?
+

Yes — in fact, this is one of our core strengths. Our teachers ask about your child's current school topics and class position so that every lesson reinforces and extends exactly what's being taught in school. Nothing contradicts the classroom.

Can I speak with the teacher before lessons start?
+

Absolutely. We encourage a brief introductory call between the parent and teacher before the first lesson so you can discuss your child's needs, ask questions and ensure confidence in the match.

Do you offer trial lessons?
+

Yes — the first lesson is free and carries no obligation. This gives your child the opportunity to meet the teacher, get comfortable in the online environment, and for you to assess whether the teaching style is the right fit.

Can siblings learn together?
+

Yes — our small group sessions are ideal for siblings studying the same subject at a similar level. We offer sibling discounts. Contact us for more details and we'll recommend the best arrangement for your family.

What if my child has SEND needs?
+

We have experienced teachers who specialise in supporting children with ASD, ADHD, dyslexia, anxiety, processing difficulties and EAL. Our approach uses clear routines, visual scaffolding, patient repetition and adaptive techniques in a calm, low-pressure environment.
